Private Resistance, Loveless Hall

An oversight in the Wivenhoe Diary: I forgot to add that Eastern Angles of Ipswich are bringing Private Resistance to the William Loveless Hall [where else?] on 17th and 18th February. This is part of a tour of various Eastern towns. There is a local connection with Eastern Angles top chap Matt also directing the Wivenhoe Pantomime.

    The blurb adds:

"Eastern Angles present Private Resistance, the ultimate ‘what-if' scenario. How would the British have coped with a German invasion? Set in 1940 it's a thrilling tale of the so-called Auxiliary Units, Churchill's secret guerrilla army primed to go underground to fight behind the lines - a story of the bonds created and destroyed by wartime. This fascinating play is researched and written by Eastern Angles' Artistic Director, Ivan Cutting and directed by Naomi Jones whose credits include Return To Akenfield and The Long Way Home."

You can book tickets over here.

Eastern Angles..  they so staged a wonderful production of  " We Didnt Mean To Go To Sea " by Arthur Ransome, at the one before the last Ipswich Maritime weekend, 2010.

Just got back home.  A beautifully crafted story.  I liked the way small details were revealed gradually throughout the play... on a 'need to know' basis.  Characters were portrayed with dignity and humanity.

And when was the last time the William Loveless Hall [where else?] got a mention in The Graun?

Very much looking forward to later.

A really gripping, brilliant performance. Cast really kept the pace tight, and the dialogue fast and furious, except where quieter moments demanded a greater use of silence, facial expression and body language. A 'must see'.

A superb production. The transformation of the Loveless Hall [where else?] to a professional theatre venue was equally on par with the performances. The two and a half hours of silence throughout the play tells you how gripping the dialogue was. Something very special.

    Many thanks.

And if you want to see the William Loveless Hall [where else?] be transformed from a *ahem* well loved local town community facility into a professional theatre set, then whaddya know - there's a video of this below.

    Splendid.
