New Ferry Service?

Interesting story in today's Gazette (which I couldn't find on their website to link to) that the Brightlingsea Harbour Commissioners have spent £40,000 on a 21 foot 12-man passenger boat to provide a ferry service between Brightlingsea and King Edward Quay at the Hythe, where Colchester Council is building five new pontoons. Brightlingsea's harbour master has said the boat might make stops at Wivenhoe and Rowhedge.

Taking the ferry to my office at the Hythe would make a very interesting alternative to Clingoe Hill.

    Hi Simon,

Very interesting. Does the article say there will be a weekday service?

Wow! Some interesting possibilities opening up... (better not get too excited; perhaps a cold shower, just in case...?)

Here is the article from the Gazette. Hopefully it will be large enough to read :

The tide might cause some issues?

Although the Gazette says the river will be dredged (that will cost a fortune I guess).

Clearly nothing to get excited about, just a recreational facility "one trip per day" subject to tide.  "Ferry" is wrong word anyway, surely?  River bus perhaps.  Now if there were talk of reopening the Wiv-Brightlingsea railway, that would be interesting.
