Here's the poster for the John Stewart event at the Loveless Hall later in the month. There's a maritime theme to the exhibition this year.

I highly recommend this exhibition (based on previous years). And John is a fascinating and refreshingly ego-free chap to talk to about the history of Wivenhoe.

Agreed Hazel! This is a brilliant show, and a real labour of love. John also accompanies the 'Blue Badge' tours of Wivenhoe with his album of photos which enable you to compare the 'then & now' of what you're looking at. Another of Wivenhoe's (many) unsung heroes...

Went to see the exhibition at about 1130 am ...didn't get out of the foyer area with the old map for nigh on half an hour, just discussing memories of my early days in Wivenhoe with one or two old timers (facsimiles of self). Once inside, I remained fascinated for at least another hour and a half, finding out so much more about our town than I knew or thought I knew. Met many interesting people with other aspects of past happenings. Somebody even drew my attention to a picture of me; I just couldn't recall the occasion but didn't deny it. Also spotted the wife in her Nana Mouskouri look-alike days... hot-diggedy! Time well spent and still left thinking I'd only scratched the surface of our local history.

Yes - an amazing exhibition. We had plans to go back for a second visit, but simply ran out of time over the weekend. As elmfoot observes above - it was genuinely lovely to see how the Loveless Hall had become something of an unofficial old boys and girls social club over the weekend. Pockets of conversation were scattered around, with many old stories being remembered and passed on.

Man thanks to John for giving up all of his Bank Holiday weekend to organise this.

    Bloggage.
