Mean Streets of Wivenhoe-Further thoughts on the Shipyard Development

There will be an article in today’s Gazette about the above subject.

The reporter, Frances Leate told me that she is concentrating on the noise and pollution aspect of the situation as well as compensation.

At this point I would like to achieve a two things: -

    Firstly, the truly intolerable lorries.

We have no idea when TW will finish this development, and in reality they don’t know either-but we think it is likely to be another two years at least.

For that length of time they should use an alternative route-their own temporary pier on the river or perhaps a temporary road across the marshes-though that is as unfair to wildlife as it is to us.

I also believe that Taylor Wimpey should take whatever steps are necessary now to alleviate some of the worst side effects, that is, air and noise pollution.

And I believe we should be offered compensation for the awful conditions we have been and are still subjected to on a daily basis.

Secondly, what this situation has thrown up is that our needs are not being respected or represented by anybody on the Borough Council. Wivenhoe Town Council was ‘consulted’ and expressed their views against the current lorry route, just as they were against the flood plain development.

On both occasions they have been overruled by Colchester Borough Council’s Planning Department.

Therefore I believe we lorry route residents should maybe consider why we are paying Council Tax, most of which goes to Colchester and at local elections voting Councillors onto a Council that clearly does not have Wivenhoe residents’ interests at heart.

I also believe that with the number of new houses already built in Wivenhoe the village infrastructure cannot cope.

Perhaps it is time for a Wivenhoe District Council with councillors who are paid for their time and effort and more powers to develop the village in an environmentally and villager friendly way.

I would like to know what other lorry route residents think about the above and also the views for and against from anyone else who is interested.

Jason. Perhaps this should be linked/added to the Taylor Wimpey topic, it's basically the same topic started by the same author!.

    Fair point - thanks.

Sadly there's not a merge plugin for the forum software as yet, and so I'll leave this as it is for now. It would be useful for all users to maybe add related comments to existing threads, should they be relevant. I know it's asking to look around and dig out the old threads - the search engine is pretty powerful and comes up with the right results.

    Thanks.

I have had a letter from TW which confirms our meeting with them and then proceeds to leave out most of what we discussed.
The two things they do agree to do are:- Hold a meeting for residents of lorry route 'towards the end of the project'-this is not what we agreed. And to send out a newsletter.
What they agreed at the meeting,I wrote up on uploaded to the Forum. That was written up from notes that Cyril Liddy and I took at the time.
I have had no reply from Col BC Planning and Environmental Departments to emails sent on 17th August and again last weekend.
I have just had a reply from the Highways Dept. to an email I sent them on 17th August which tells me that TW have planning permission from the ColBC Planning Dept and that they are legally using the 'maintainable highway' to transport supplies. They also say, they will seek a contribution from TW for repair of roads and pavements.
Bernard Jenkin has sent me a copy of a letter which he has written to the CEO of Taylor Wimpey regarding the 'flood plain issue' and B.J.asks him whether TW are telling purchasers of those houses what the situation is regarding flooding.
B.J. has also written to the CEO of Col B.C. to find out why I have not heard from any of those departments and to question what is going on.
Though I didn't stress the matter of compensation when I met with TW's reps, I now believe that all of us on the lorry route as well as the QRRA should push for this. Since this development started I have had a hit and run to my car (lorry-I think) which cost me £200, I've fallen into a pothole and seriously sprained my ankle. A crack has appeared in the wall of our house and my fruit and vegetable garden is affected -one apple tree is dead and another is dying and the third looks like it's going the same way. Also I've decided not to eat my vegetables since they have been covered in dust and exhaust fumes.
